During a 24-hour adopt-a-thon on Saturday and Sunday at Tropical Park, 379 cats and dogs found new homes.
Miami-Dade Animal Services placed 188 animals, said director Alex Munoz. The Greater Miami Humane Society Adopt-a-Pet placed 132, and rescue groups placed 59.
Another 59 were adopted straight from the Animal Services and Humane Society shelters during the Mega Pet Adoption Event, presented by PetSmart Charities, Munoz said.
“Thanks to everyone’s hard work, dedication and true passion, hundreds of lives were saved this weekend at Tropical Park,’’ Munoz said in an email to volunteers, staff members, foster “parents’ and others who participated. “Hundreds of families are happier today than just a few days ago because their homes are now complete with a new dog or cat. ‘’
